Three Decades of AI Research
The research groups that today constitute VRAIN have been active in artificial intelligence research since the early 1990s, building a record of scientific output and international recognition. This shared history provided the foundation on which the institute was established.
Formation: 2019–2021
April 2019: The Valencian Institute of Artificial Intelligence Research (VRAIN) was initially established, bringing together six research groups with aligned interests in artificial intelligence.
2020: VRAIN merged with the Research Centre on Software Production Methods (PROS), founded in 2008, incorporating expertise in software engineering and model-driven development.
June 2021: The Consell of the Valencian Government officially recognised VRAIN as a University Research Institute through Decree 78/2021, dated 4 June 2021, the highest research classification for university research structures within the Spanish university system.
